The sculpture is inspired by hand woven hand-held fans that are still used in Tonga and across the Pacific on hot tropical days. In ancient Tonga, skills like weaving were passed down mother to daughter from generation to generation. And before the written word was introduced, time spent weaving was also time for sharing stories, history and legends. A very important way to keep the culture alive.
